mattachewey Store Edwardian Solid Silver & Bristol Blue Glass Lined Mustard Pot by William Hutton & Son Ltd dated 1909 This Delightful Edwardian Mustard Pot measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 54 mm across from the handle to the front lip by just under 1 5/8 inches or 40 mm across the width of the body and it stands 1 3/4 inches or 44 mm tall to the top of the finial when the lid is closed. It is made from a solid silver outer carriage in a circular shape that has a pierced decoration, the mustard pot has a D shape handle and a three section piano hinged lid that has a thumb catch on the top. The mustard pot has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and it has been impressed with English solid silver hallmarks that read as follows, W H Ss Ld - Anchor - Lion Passant - k W H Ss Ld is the Birmingham makers mark of William Hutton Sons Ltd, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English solid sterling silver and the letter k is the date letter for 1909. The condition is Excellent for its age. The Mustard Pot has with No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks and No Holes that I can find, the mustard pot stands straight, the decoration is crisp, the hinge has a little play in it but it is working perfectly, the lid opens and closes with ease, the internal blue glass liner has no cracks, the hallmark is still legible although as the mustard pot is a used antique the liner has a small chip on the upper rim and the hinge pin is a replacement, the pot has some minor surface wear along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean clean not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique mustard pot can still be used today and that it would make a delightful addition to any collection, I also think that the it looks fantastic considering that it's over 100 years old.
