This auction is for one of several pieces of vintage to antique "silverware" that we are offering this week, thinning out some of our miscellania stuff-and-such that seems to accumulate; time for these to move on to new homes! Check our current auctions for other assorted pieces, always happy to combine shipping! Ooops! pardon the fingerprint smudges on the knife blade photo. . . looks like it needed wiped down a bit after handling to identify it!
This is a "master" butter knife or butter "spreader", placed with the dish of butter for individual servings to be sliced off onto the guest's bread plate; it is marked "1847 Rogers Bros. XS Triple" with a small, round crest emblem; introduced in 1911, featuring a pierced handle tip with elongated flower; the blade/spreader area also has a more pronounced point and elaborate scallop along with dainty design at the lower end of the blade; it roughly measures 7 1/4" long and is in overall very good condition with light signs of wear and use.
